An Accidental Obedient Thief- A Sarcasm

Dr. Abhishek Kumar Pandey
Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Kalinga University

Mr. Gupta was a retired teacher. After retirement, he lived in a small flat in Gurgaon with his wife.
Once, during the summer, he made plans to visit Kashmir with his wife. However, there were frequent thefts in their area, which made him very concerned about the security of his home.
Before going to Kashmir, Mr. Gupta thought that if a thief broke into their house in his absence, he would damage all the cupboards and boxes while searching for cash, which he wouldn’t find.
After much thought, Mr. Gupta decided to save his house from being ransacked by leaving a two-thousand-rupee note on the table for the thief.
Along with this, he left an emotional letter addressed to the thief, which read: “Dear Uninvited Guest, I congratulate you on your hard work to enter my house, but with great regret, I must inform you that we are a simple, lower-middle-class family, and we live on my small pension. We have no extra cash. I am truly ashamed that your hard work and valuable time are being wasted here. Hence, as a token of my respect, I have left a small amount of money on the table for you. Please accept it with grace. Along with this, I am providing you with some tips to improve your risky business. You may try these. Success will surely follow you. Right across my flat on the seventh floor lives a very influential minister. On the eighth floor, there is a well-known property dealer. The chairman of a cooperative bank lives on the sixth floor. A prominent industrialist lives on the fifth floor. On the fourth floor is a well-known contractor, and on the third floor, there is a corrupt engineer. Their homes are filled with jewelry and cash. I can say with certainty that your professional success will not harm any of them, and possibly, none of them will even report it to the police.” … With best wishes, your well-wisher.”
After their trip to Kashmir, when Mr. Gupta and his wife returned, they found a bag placed on the table inside their home.
They were both astonished by a bag containing five lakh rupees in cash and a letter.
The letter read: “Thank you very much, Guruji, for your excellent guidance and directions. I deeply regret not having come across you sooner. As per your instructions, I completed my mission. As a token of respect, I am leaving a small amount as ‘Guru Dakshina’ for you. In the future, I hope to continue receiving your blessings and guidance.” … Your ever-obedient thief
