Working in any department, agency run by the government for the people of country, states is known as government service and when we work for any particular agency or firm which is run by an individual is known as private job. In the private job the whole gain is for that individual and he distribute the salary to his workers. Private job and government job are two different forms of employment, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice between private and government jobs will depend on a person’s personal preferences and career goals. In terms of job security, salary, benefits and work environment these are different. Private jobs are offered by companies, organizations or individuals in the private sector and focused on generating profits. They offer a more flexible work environment but job security can be uncertain in other hand government jobs are offered by government agencies and departments and are focused on serving the public. They offer more job security but they may have a more bureaucratic work environment.

The dilemma faced by every person that which job is best private or government? Government jobs are considered very prestigious in Indian society while the private sector provides better work as well as better pay. Difference between government and private jobs can be fill as below-

Salary hikes and promotions: Regardless of which department you are in, you will expect a salary increase, promotion and appraisal based on your hard work. Most employees in the private sectors get salary hikes or promotions after every year or half a year. But in some private sectors it is not fixe to increase the salary of every employee.

Benefits & Allowances: Government jobs are the first priority of many people because it has many benefits. Government employees get many benefits like pension, provident fund, housing, transportation cost etc. However, this is not the case in the private sector.

Combat: The race to get a government job is very difficult. Almost all government jobs are recruited on the basis of a competitive exam and students from all states and across the country participate in it, making the competition very tough. The selection process in the private sector is not so competitive. That is why first of all you have to try for government job and private job should be the last choice.

Control Level: In government offices, the level of control is quite low. A government job gives you the freedom to work independently, but in a restricted space. With private jobs, the level of control is generally high and does not have much freedom.

Job flexibility: Private jobs provide flexible working hours, work from home, remote work and many such provisions. Government jobs can also be flexible, but not as much as private jobs.

Work satisfaction: This parameter varies from person to person. What may be interesting for one can be monotonous work for the other. However, it is commonly seen that government jobs become monotonous and employees feel dissatisfied with their work.

Job Security: Government jobs provide job security while there is no job security in the private sector. Once you get a government job, you don’t fear losing it unless you do something very big. However, this is not the case in the private sector. There is a tension of losing the job.

Low pressure: Private jobs put more pressure on an employee than a government job. Processes in government jobs are easier than in private sectors.

Days of vacation: When working for the government, you get to enjoy all the holidays of the calendar. However, this is not the case in the private sector. The private sector gives limited holidays leaving employees with little time to spend with their families.

Pension: There is no provision of pension in the private sector while government jobs provide it. Pension is a very important aspect in an employee’s life as it secures their retirement so that they do not have to worry about earning in their old age.

Pay: Salary packages in the private sector are more attractive than government jobs. However, government jobs offer certain perks that are not included with private jobs.

Selection Process: The selection process of government jobs is very tough as candidates from across the country compete for very few posts. However, in case of private jobs the selection is usually done through an interview.

Social prestige: The government job is very prestigious by the society. Only a select few candidates can crack these exams, which is a matter of great pride for the candidates.

The choice of getting a private job or applying for a government job often leaves students confused. In this article, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of working in both areas. Both government jobs and private jobs can be equally rewarding. It depends on a person what they expect from themselves and what kind of lifestyle they want to choose. Getting a government job can be difficult, but with proper coaching for government exams, one can easily pass them. Private sectors do not require you to pass any examination, as selection is mostly on the basis of unit interview.
