APPLICATION OF GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

An important expansion of operations in residential, industrial, or commercial development is civil construction. Buildings with multiple stories in height, hospitals, schools, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, chemical storage facilities, garages, workshops, gas stations, shopping centers, playgrounds, parkland, and other structures are all included in this. Any establishment is capable of seriously contaminating the environment due to uncontrolled development and improper environmental management. Therefore, site evaluation, monitoring, assessment, and restoration are frequently necessary before the post-construction era. An up market environmental restorative system is the result of this. Such pollution prevention methods might be very expensive to manage. As a result, ongoing analysis and study can lessen the threat posed by problems. Any scientific investigation into environmental restoration is important and has a big impact, especially when it comes to construction engineering or commercial development. It includes the development of high-rise multistory buildings, hospitals, schools, industrial plants, manufacturing industries, warehouses, chemical storage buildings, garages, workshops, gasoline station, shopping malls, playgrounds, parklands, agricultural or mining industries etc. Due to unplanned development and lack of proper environmental management, any establishment can cause severe contamination. Thus, environment often requires site assessment, monitoring, evaluation and restoring before post construction period. This has resulted in an upscale environmental restoring system. Managing such pollution prevention method can cause major economic burden. Therefore, continuous investigation and research can mitigate the danger related to the problems. Any scientific research concerning environmental restoration possesses significant impact and importance just in case of construction engineering or its management.

Geo-environment is a branch of engineering that deals with remediating contaminated sites, assessing contaminated sites, and monitoring soil or groundwater. Engineers with the knowledge and expertise to solve environmental problems including human contact with air, water, soil, and underground groundwater are needed. A geo-environmental engineer may be involved in a variety of tasks, such as geotechnical investigation, management of contaminated land, geochemical analysis, hydrogeology, management of water resources, prediction of contaminant fate and transit, and environmental impact and risk assessments.

Geo-environmental studies include approaches for resolving global issues with soil and rock-related issues (for infrastructure development), soil/water interactions as well as pore water pressure research (for any hydraulic structure development), coastal engineering, seismic engineering, soil and rock-related issues, andsoil and spring water remediation techniques. The use of numerous chemicals is growing along with civilisation and the technological revolution. Large cities around the world, including Toronto, New York, Beijing, and Delhi, among others, frequently have soil and groundwater contamination, which poses serious risks to public health. Any construction site must be inspected before infrastructure development in order to protect human health. Investigations should be conducted into the presence of contamination that could endanger the public in the air, soil, and groundwater. A team of engineers with sufficient expertise of environmental research and remediation methods frequently handles the issues. Subsurface pollution may be caused by haphazard urban development, dangerous chemical spills, or irresponsible waste disposal procedures. the keeping and subsequently dispersing of the storage and therefore the dispensing of petroleum products or leaking storage tanks at gas stations, liquid wastes from dry cleaners, oil refineries, and manufacturing plants are one among the main sources of subsurface contamination..

Research is being done to create reactive treatment methods that are effective, affordable, environmentally safe, and easily accessible in order to restore the contaminated environment. They also investigate the viability of reusing waste materials or employing renewable resources for environmental rehabilitation. Utilizing trash recycling to remove contaminants can greatly reduce commercial operations’ environmental impact and, as a result, promote sustainable growth.
