District cooling is one of the energy efficient systems of producing cooling using chilled water. Unlike the chilled water system wherein the chilled water is produced within the building, a district cooling system produces chilled water at a particular location in a city. The system primarily comprises of network of insulated underground pipes that provides chilled water to the end user according to their cooling requirements. It consumes about 25 to 30% less electrical energy compared to the conventional air-conditioning system. It is also economical, environment friendly and better operational efficiency when compared to that of other cooling technologies.
